About the Unit Converter

A single converter for the eight unit categories people convert most often: length, mass, temperature, area, volume, speed, digital storage and time duration. Pick a category, type a value, and see it instantly converted to every other unit in that category.

How to use it

  1. 01Select the category you need (length, mass, temperature, etc.).
  2. 02Type a value and choose the 'from' and 'to' units.
  3. 03Use the swap button to reverse the conversion direction.
  4. 04Check the full table below for the same value expressed in every unit of that category.

Features

  • Eight categories covering the most common everyday and technical conversions
  • Special-cased temperature math for Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin (not a simple multiplier)
  • One-click swap between the two selected units
  • A full comparison table showing the value in every unit at once

Practical examples

Cooking

Convert 350°F to Celsius for an oven recipe written in metric units.

Travel

Convert 60 miles/hour to kilometers/hour when driving abroad.

File sizes

Convert 2.5 gigabytes to mebibytes to understand actual storage usage.

Limitations

  • Digital storage uses decimal (1000-based) units like megabytes alongside binary (1024-based) units like mebibytes; check which one you actually need.
  • Month and year conversions for time duration use average lengths (30.44 and 365.25 days) since calendar months vary.

Privacy

Conversions are calculated locally in your browser using fixed conversion factors. No data is transmitted or stored.

Frequently asked questions

Are the conversion factors exact?

Yes, standard unit definitions (e.g. 1 mile = 1609.344 meters) are used for physical units; time durations for months/years use averages.

Why is temperature different from other categories?

Temperature scales have different zero points, so conversion requires an offset formula rather than a simple multiplication factor.

Can I convert between binary and decimal digital storage units?

Yes, both kilobytes (1000-based) and kibibytes (1024-based) are included so you can compare them directly.
